Agency Website Design: A Checklist for Studios
An agency or studio website has a strange job. It has to show off your craft, but it also has to sell. Visitors want to be impressed, and then they want to know what you do, what it costs and how to start.
Plenty of studio sites get the first part right and stop there. They look beautiful, but a potential client leaves without knowing what services you offer or how to get in touch.
This checklist covers what an agency website needs, whether you are a design studio, a development shop, a video production company, a marketing agency or a freelancer. Use it to review your current site or plan a new one.
A first screen that says what you do
You have a few seconds to make an impression. Use them well.
- Say clearly what you do and who you do it for in one short line.
- Show your work or your style straight away, not a generic stock photo.
- Add one clear call to action, such as Start a project or See our work.
- Keep motion purposeful. Subtle animation can show craft; a slow intro that blocks the page loses people.
Services that are easy to understand
Clients shop for outcomes, not job titles. A services page should tell them exactly what they can hire you for.
- Give each service its own short block or page with a plain description.
- Explain what is included and what a typical project looks like.
- Mention starting prices or typical budgets if you can. It filters out poor fits early.
- Link each service to related projects.
A portfolio that tells stories
Your work is your strongest proof. Present it as case studies, not just a grid of pretty pictures.
- For each project, explain the brief, what you did and what changed for the client.
- Use large, high-quality visuals, but compress them so pages stay quick.
- Let visitors filter projects by service or industry.
- Only share results and client names you have permission to use.
Show how you work
Hiring a studio feels risky to many clients. A short process section, from first call to launch, makes the next step feel safe. Three to five clear steps are usually enough.
Trust signals that are real
Logos of clients you have worked with, short testimonials and any awards help, as long as they are genuine. Ask happy clients for a quote and permission to use their name. Never invent reviews; people can tell, and it undermines everything else on the page.
A contact form that does not get lost
Every enquiry is a potential project. Make getting in touch easy and make sure nothing slips through.
- Keep the form short: name, email, a few words about the project, and an optional budget range.
- Put a contact link in the header and at the end of every case study.
- Make sure enquiries are saved somewhere you check, not just emailed to an inbox that might filter them.
- Say how quickly you usually reply.
Fast, accessible and found
- Self-host fonts and keep scripts lean, even on a visual site.
- Respect the reduced-motion setting for visitors who prefer less animation.
- Check colour contrast, especially on dark designs.
- Give each service and project page a clear title and description for search.
Putting it together with WordPress
WordPress gives studios full control over their site and content, and it is easy to hand over to a team member for updates. With the right theme you do not need to build custom post types or page templates yourself.
Our Tailor Studio theme is a dark, futuristic theme for creative studios, agencies and freelancers. It opens with an animated hero of flowing light threads that react to the cursor, a rotating headline and a 3D stack of your best projects, then walks visitors through your services, your work and how you work.
Services and Projects are built in, so adding a new case study or service is as easy as writing a post. A full Services page, a filterable Work page and a built-in contact form that saves every enquiry come ready on day one. Every text on the front page is editable in the Customizer, and any page can be rebuilt in Elementor.
Tailor Studio costs from $69/year for one site and is also available for Shopify, Webflow and Wix. You can see it running on a live site before you buy.
Final thoughts
A good agency website impresses quickly, then gets out of the way. Say what you do, prove it with real case studies, explain how you work and make contact effortless. Get those right and the visual polish becomes a reason to hire you, not a distraction.
